Sales in the North of Cyprus have seen an upsurge by Israeli buyers and a definitive downturn in buyers from the U.K Jews from Israel are wanting holiday homes and input from Israeli business firms have increased along side most of the development which is also done by Israeli companies. Turkish buyers still remain the number one buyers of land in the north but Israel is now a definite second acording to the North Cyprus Real Esate Association headed by Hasan Sungur.

Cyprus has started a campaign against H1N1 with the most venerable being immunised first. The European Centre for Disease and its prevention has reported that over 7000 people worldwide have died from the H1N1 virus. Cyprus intents to immunise 50 % of the populous including workers in the Public and private communities.

The European Commission predicts a decline of 0.7% in GDP for Cyprus this year. The country slipped into recession in the second quarter of this year, there has been a slowdown in development / construction. The management of public finances also caused the European Commission to forecast a 6.0 budget deficit in 2011. The finance Minister Charilaos Stavrakis has also commented: Stating revenues need to be increased without raising taxes and state expenditure was to be reduced.

This week saw the closure of the old airport terminal at Larnaca. the new terminal is now up and running fully and has the capacity for 7.5 milli0n passengers annually. The old terminal was born in 1975 after the 1974 war. The cost of the new airport by Hermes International is over 650 million Euros.

The new Larnaca international airport has opened and is now operational. Initially for carriers Cyprus Airways and Easy jet with other carriers following. 2009 saw more carriers than ever before arriving in Cyprus. Managed by Hermes Airports who have a 25 year contract including the build is the largest ever construction contract awarded in Cyprus. Hermes is also contracted to oversee the devlopment of Paphos airport and this is oncluded in part of the 622m deal.

The United Kingdom has offered to assist further in a peace settlement between the divided island by offering to hand over part of the 3% of the land it uses for military purposes. On Tuesday the idea was presented to Mr Alexander Downer the United Nations envoy. Both sides would have to accept the proposal commented Mr Downer.

Inflation figures out in Cyprus show a continuing trend on the negative. The Consumer price index however shows an increase , this is predominantly due to the rise of such commodities as electricity clothing. However the price of petroleum has decreased.

Premier Christofias will not be attending the invite by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the German capital Berlin to mark the falling of the Berlin wall. It is reported he has tight schedule and can not attend. The marking of the event will take place on Nov 9th with parties and events held throughout the Capital.
