Climate change is the responsibility of everyone and “Cyprus bears some responsibility” said minister Michalis Polynikis at a recent European climate conference. A forthcoming summit in Copenhagen for European countries in December plans to address this issue further with a proposed plan for a 2 deg C reduction in temperature on the agenda.

There is to be a new marina developed in Larnaca. This is set to be a one billion Euro project with space for over one thousand boats. Negotiating is currently underway for finance. Not only for the Marina itself but also for the adjoining hotels and related  infrastructure.

On Saturday a Tornado hit Nicosia.The result was 17 people injured and cars damaged. Trees were also uprooted and telegraph poles downed some buildings suffered roof damage. The Tornado then headed North.

Yesterday afternoon a strong Earthquake hit Cyprus. Many citizens evacuated buildings. Cyprus has frequent tremors but this is the second strong quake this year. There are seven seismic stations with a geographic HQ in Nicosia. On average there are more than 100 regional occurrences per year. The swine flu epedemic is to be discused further at the World Health Organisation upcomming meeting ( Copenhagen ) regarding the HN1N virus. The Cypriot health ministry has said that vacines will be used only if they are safe and the furthermore that the Government is attempting to secure contracts to aquire the vacine from the suppliers.

Figures released by the World Economic Forum show that Cyprus is at position 34 in the Most competitive world economy stakes. The World forum compares 133 countries, Switzerland comes in at number one. for Cyprus the index reveals a move upwards of 6 positions compared to the previous year.

There may be an increase in the price of electricity of up to 6% acording to the Electircal Authority of Cyprus . This is due to financila debts within the Authority. Electricity prices have fluctuated vastly in  recent times and the blame has been due to the rise and fall of fuel prices.The proposal is an anual increase of 2% per year upon the end consumer.

Unemployment statistics reveal that there has been another increase in the number of people out of work. The number officially registered out of work is now over 18000 and there has been a rise of 4% in August when compared with July.

Bad Behavior has blocked 57 access attempts in the last 7 days.
